Roger and Ruth Lephiew would like to thank you for visiting our website. We are a small kennel in south Arkansas. Our purpose is to further the West Siberian Laika breed in the United States. The West Siberian Laika breed is one of the most outstanding breeds for hunting. Laikas are natural tree dogs, and they start at a very young age if given a chance in the woods. These dogs are for the serious hunter and should not be purchased as a pet only! I purchased my first Laika in 2000 and have never regretted my purchase. I became “hooked.” Laikas do not need to be started with older dogs. I believe pups start hunting better by themselves.
A few people have realized that we need new Laika blood here in the United States. There have been a few dogs imported from Russia and Kazakhstan the last four or five years. I imported two females from Kazakhstan in June, 2006. This was very costly and time consuming, but I believe it was worth the cost, as we now have two more different bloodlines in the U.S. A special thank you goes to Mr. Vladimir Beregovoy. Without Vladimir’s assistance I would not have been able to import these dogs from Kazakhstan.
